She plays each against the other, not only for romantic reasons, but also to influence the shaping of the young country. afdah Annabelle Serpentine Dance (1947)
Two dancers perform in succession facing a stationary camera. The first is in a diaphanous skirt, held out by her hands with arms extended. She smiles, wearing butterfly wings on her back and the wings of Mercury in her hair. Her dance emphasizes the movement of her visible, bare legs. She kicks high, bows, and moves to her right and left. The second dancer has a voluminous, long skirt, and holds sticks in each hand attached to the skirt\'s outer edges, so that the emphasis is on the swirling patterns the skirt makes, often obscuring her unsmiling face. Her feet move little on the unadorned stage; changes in the color of the lens filter accent the swirling patterns.

An actress becomes taken with Hitty, a young orphan prone to dreaming. Julie soon finds out that she is ill and has only a short time to live. She decides to adopt the child so that her husband Bill will not be alone when she dies. Unfortunately, Bill is not charmed by Hitty. After Julie dies. Bill is so grief stricken, he shuts out everyone in his life, especially Hitty. Hitty begins to receive imaginary visits from Julie who offers Hitty advice on how to make Bill happy. Bill does not believe she's seen Julie and decides to send her back to the orphanage. Rather than go back, Hitty runs away. After Bill hears a record Julie recorded before she died, he finally realizes he must move on with his life and find Hitty.

Suffering from mental illness, Gerry returns home where he paints an impression of his wife as the angel of death and then promptly poisons her. afdah Desire Me (1947)
Shortly after WWII, flashbacks tell the story of Marise, her husband Paul, and Jean, who was imprisoned with Paul in a German camp. While attempting to escape from the camp Paul is shot, and Jean goes to see Marise, confirming the news she had gotten already about Paul's death. Jean has fallen in love with Marise through the stories Paul told him, and wants to stay with her in the seaside town in Brittany where Paul owned a small business.
